FREE COUNSELLING

As an online service you might imagine how many requests I get for free work. It's a lot. I wish I could respond but as  one man supporting his family this way, unfortunately, I just cannot.

HOWEVER there are some options available.

www.counselling.ltd.uk is friendly and fair UK-only organisation for qualified counsellors.  Some of their many thousands of members offer their time for free TO THOSE ON LOW INCOMES. The counsellors are all qualified professionals.

In the UK your GP has the power to refer you to a counsellor for free.  Such counsellors are often top quality people with a big caseload.

If you need a friend fast you wont find a better one than a Sam. I've worked alongside these skilled and dedicated people and they're brilliant.  In the UK see www.samaritans.org or in other parts of the world at www.befrienders.org the UK service can also be used by email to jo@samaritans.org

But remember...

Not too long ago there were no counsellors. Somebody just applied some science to it all and professionalised a job that has been done successfully for thousands of years by relatives, friends, trusted elders and holy people from all religions.

Best wishes,

Kim.

Using my online counselling service is designed to be easy. It's available worldwide, there's no need to join anything or log in and there are no passwords or paperwork. This is a professional service but deliberately user-friendly. With an email for instance just get in touch and tell me what I need to know in your own way, making it as long as you like. When you send your email make a payment and I’ll provide a detailed reply inside 3 working days.

This service is provided by one person not many. It's a personal thing between you and me and in well over 20 years of doing this work I have experience of most issues and you're very welcome here.

Because you only use one session at once you are not tied. You will never be contacted unless you invite that. You can ask for simple advice on any emotional issue or engage me for longer if you want to do something more complicated. It's up to you. Live sessions last for 1 – 1.5 hours (not 50 minutes) and email replies happen inside 3 working days because they are considered in detail and usually take many hours to write. Sorry but you must be 18 or over to use my service.

You can use any method of meeting that you prefer (I have most) including email, Gizmo, Skype, or Yahoo and MSN Messenger. If possible please use email for your first contact just because it's easier and I don't constantly monitor other means. Please note that although I’m English I'm currently based in Asia and so probably in a different time zone to you (although I do work some odd hours). There are a lot of clocks on the page here if you want to check your time zone against mine.

Broadly, what you tell me is confidential so long as you're not intent on hurting others. I don't pass your details to anyone unless you ask me to. There are some obvious common-sense exceptions and more information here. I am accountable to UK law.

You can tell me about any issue that affects your emotions or functioning, even if you don’t really know what is affecting you or why.  Just start talking. Getting in touch at all is the hardest part.  We'll figure the rest out between us before too long.

I've found online counselling to be a really good place to at least start tackling most things and I will adjust my style of working to suit you. If you want your counsellor to spend much time asking you how you feel I advise you to try a different counsellor because although that approach is good I'm a bit more direct and informative than that. If I don’t think I can be useful I’ll tell you so, then refund your money and try to point you in the right direction.

By all means get in touch if you want to know more, you really are welcome. My first intention here is to provide the easiest possible access to a seasoned professional counsellor.  If you can think of any way I can make it easier please tell me.

Warmest regards,

Kim Smith

Over the next couple of months I will be producing a small booklet about bereavement and grief.  This will be free and downloadable from this website.  The booklet is in response to the increasing numbers of people who visit here looking at how counselling can help during these sad times.  The booklet will look at the structure of grief in it's many forms and will include understandings of simple and complex grief.  If you would like me to notify you when this is complete just drop me an email and I will - Kim
